purpose
This special issue addresses the role of sound and aural/oral modes of communication in new media texts. The webtexts (interactive online articles) in this collection vary from audio performances exemplifying multimodal mash-up techniques to exploring the pedagogical implications of having students use Microsoft PowerPoint to create music videos. The webtexts differ from the print texts in the print collection listed previously in that they were solicited and composed specifically to take advantage of the technological affordances of the Web. Thus, this issue is not a reprint or copy of the print journal issue; it is a separate issue that stands in its own light.
