Dr. Ball specializes in new media studies, which merges composition studies (including visual rhetoric) and design. She teaches courses in web design, publication management and design, editing, and interactive media. She hopes to teach a class on the rhetoric and design of scrapbooking in the near future.

Dr. Ball has published several CD-ROMS on visual/new media rhetoric and has an article in Computers and Composition . She is also editing a collection on multimodal pedagogies as part of a national research grant. She is the co-CoverWeb Editor for Kairos: Rhetoric, Technology, Pedagogy and directs multimedia production projects in the Creative Lab, a collaborative multimedia research and production space housed in the Instructional Technology department.
