Last year I completed a two-year, volunteer position as Acting Lab Director. I was able to

  • create a series of training modules for consultants,
  • encourage more professional writing students to apply for paid lab consultant positions, since they know the lab best,
  • compose a draft of a sustainable lab budget,
  • and other items.

In addition, in the role of chair of the Technology and Pedagogy Committee, the committee designed a syllabus for better online teaching training for the new graduate teaching assistants, which will be implemented this year. I also served on the Professional Writing Undergraduate Degree Committee.

On a national level, I served on the CCCC Committee for Computers in Composition & Communication (7Cs), an appointed position. This committee promotes teaching with technology in writing studies classrooms at a national level and makes recommendations to the CCCC Executive Committee on preparing guidelines for assessing student and faculty work with digital (and multimodal) texts. I will be increasing my responsibilities to this committee as co-chair (appointed from 2006–09). I also was appointed to serve on the NCTE Committee on Technical & Scientific Communication until 2008, for which I am subcommittee chair on discussing the implementation of an online technical communication journal to support scholarship in the field. This year I was also appointed chair of the CCCC Committee for Excellence in Writing Programs, an annual award to national and international writing programs which is juried by the committee.
